Remember when heavy metal was supposed to be fun? COLOSSUS does, and they’ve made it their mission to make sure that you don’t ever forget. COLOSSUS draws heavily on the mighty lineage of bands such as JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, SAXON and the rest of the early 80′s metal legends. But don’t make the mistake of labeling them a novelty act. Colossus fuses humor, epic songwriting and face-melting guitars into a sound that sets them apart from all their contemporaries. The band’s 2007 release “Colossus…and the Rift of the Pan-dimensional Under-gods” has been called “an out and out guitar-freak-out album” and showcases the band’s broad appreciation of musical styles and humorous attitude toward all things, including themselves and their music.
The members of COLOSSUS bring together a resume of former projects that reads like a who’s-who of central North Carolina’s punk and metal scene from the last decade. The band’s current line-up features members of such legendary NC bands as The Scaries, Alli With an I, Amish Jihad, and The Manhattan Project. Formed from the ashes of the instrumental 2-piece, Perrosmith, founding members Nicky Nixon (guitar) and Ben Smith (drums) were joined by Sean Buchanan (vocals), Taylor Lauritson(guitar), and Rylan Wilshire-Eschelman to give rise to the first incarnation of COLOSSUS. Taylor moved to Britain for school and was replaced by current guitarist Bill Fischer. After being accepted to Harvard (yes, that Harvard), Nixon left NC and was replaced by Andy Lewis. But, not to be counted out for long, Nicky still returns from time to time to transform COLOSSUS a six headed heavy metal monster.
The band has toured non-stop over the last few years, including stops at Florida ‘s annual heavy metal bonanza, The Fest, in 2008 and South by Southwest in 2008 and 2009.
In 2009 the band also released their widely praised EP “Drunk On Blood” exclusively on vinyl through Nice Life Records. Raleigh NC’s Independent said of the record, ” COLOSSUS oozes talent like a Viking lets blood on a battlefield.” They also recorded the hit single “Sunglasses in Space” for Raleigh’s well received local music compilation “Hear Here”.
In 2010 COLOSSUS joins with Killer Metal Records of Germany for a rerelease their first album “The Rift of the Pandimensional Under-gods” with new artwork and packaging to customize the album to a wider audience. The album offers Heavy Metal with a typical early 80ies-US Metal character, carried by powerful and inventive guitars, and lyrics with always a twinkle in the eye. This album is fun und should be loved by all fans of the genre!
2010 also finds COLOSSUS and their new drummer Doza working on material for a future full length. In addition, they will be hitting the road this summer to bring their unstoppable live show to new audiences across the US.

COLOSSUS wandeln schwer auf der mächtigen Abstammungslinie von Bands wie JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, SAXON und dem Rest der frühen 80er-Metal Legenden. Aber mach nicht den Fehler, sie als neumodischen Kram abzustempeln! COLOSSUS vereinigen Humor, episches Songwriting and gesichtszerfressende Gitarren zu einem Sound, der sie von all ihren Zeitgenossen abhebt! Ihre 2007er Veröffentlichung “Colossus…and the Rift of the Pan-dimensional Under-gods” wurde als “an out and out guitar-freak-out album” bezeichnet und präsentiert die breite Anerkennung der Band für Musikstile und einer heiteren Einstellung gegenüber allen Dingen, sich selbst und ihre Musik dabei einschließend!
Die Bandmitglieder von COLOSSUS vereinigen ein Resume früherer Projekte, das sich wie ein „Who is who“ der zentralen North Carolina Punk und Metal Szene der letzten Dekade liest. Die aktuelle Besetzung weist Mitglieder solch „legendärer“ North Carolina-Bands wie THE SCARIES; ALLI WITH AN I, AMISH JIHAD oder THE MANHATTAN PROJECT auf. Entstanden aus der Asche des Instumental-Duos PERROSMITH wurden die Gründungsmitglieder Nicky Nixon (Gitarre) und Ben Smith (Schlagzeug) komplettiert von Sean Buchanan (Gesang), Taylor Lauritson(Gitarre) und Rylan Wilshire-Eschelman (Bass), um zur ersten Fleischwerdung von COLOSSUS zu werden. Taylor zog nach England, um dort zur Schule zu gehen und wurde ersetzt vom derzeitigen Gitarristen Bill Fischer. Nachdem Nixon in Harvard (ja genau, dieses Harvard!) aufgenommen wurde, verließ er North Carolina und wurde durch Andy Lewis ersetzt. Nicky kehrt jedoch immer wieder von Zeit zu Zeit zurück um COLOSSUS in ein sechsköpfiges Heavy Metal Monster zu verwandeln!
Die Band war die letzen Jahre unentwegt auf Tournee, inklusive Aufenthalten zu Floridas jährlicher Heavy Metal Bonanza, The Fest in 2008 und South by Southwest in 2008 und 2009.
2009 veröffentlichte die Band ihre weithin hochgelobte EP “Drunk On Blood”, exclusiv auf Vinyl von Nice Life Records herausgebracht. In 2010 starteten COLOSSUS und KILLER METAL RECORDS ihre Zusammenarbeit mit dem ersten Ergebnis der Wiederveröffentlichung des ersten Albums “The Rift of the Pandimensional Under-gods”, neu illustriert und aufgemacht, um das Album einer breiteren Masse an Hörern zugänglich zu machen. Das Album bietet Heavy Metal der US Metal typischen Frühachtziger-Prägung, getragen von kräftigen und einfallsreichen Gitarren, immer mit einem Augenzwinkern in den Texten. Ein Album das Spaß macht und allen Fans des Genres gefallen dürfte!
2010 – COLOSSUS arbeiten mit ihrem neuen Fellverdrescher Doza an neuem Material für ein zukünftiges Langeisen. Weiterhin macht die Band sich im Sommer auf den Weg um live zu spielen, neue Zuhörerschaften zu erschließen und neue Fans zu gewinnen!
